Some Things You Should Not Do for Your Headshot Session
In the past, I’ve focused on things TO DO to get your best headshot ever. Here I mention a few of the DO NOTS, which are equally as important as the DO's! Here we go:
- Don’t get a new haircut just before the session. Give it a week to grow in a little and for you to feel comfortable with the look.
- Don’t wear something that might “clash” with the background. Ask your headshot photographer what color he or she recommends for the background, and ask for suggestions on colors to wear and/or avoid.
- Don’t wear white unless you are wearing layers and it is underneath. Do you know why?
- Don’t wear jewelry that will distract from your face or that is very trendy and might look dated down the road. Ideally, a timeless professional headshot should be absent of all jewelry.
- Don’t wear loud stripes or checks, and avoid herringbone patterns. No short sleeves! Do you know why?
- Don’t over-do your makeup. Apply makeup the way you normally do for work, or the way you will for an agency if you are an actor or performer.
